Hair Cuttery don't treat their employees right!

Hair Cuttery don't treat their stylists good at all. They got paid below minimum wage, which is illegal. The stylists are forced to push retail on them or they can get fired. If they don't make commission, the company cuts their hours. It's hard to live on this job.If they want so bad to sell retail, then they need to get a receptionist. They don't even give very much to sell it,I think only 7- 12%.Not to mention the district leaders are on some power trip. They treat the stylists like dogs. They send the stylists to WOW classes if they don't tell the client what they used in their hair or put the product in the clients hand to wind them up to buy it.The company makes them clean. They don't pay us to clean.Hire housekeeping!

I'm really concerned about who and how the stylist can be protected from this type of abuse!

Guest

I worked for haircuttery for over 20 years. I felt that I was not treated fairly!

To be a master stylist , you would think they would go by your ability to do great hair. As a single mother I worked my *** off doing my many requests a day plus the walk in , being a single mom I needed to make a pay check. Because of this I was almost punished because I could never make it to master stylists level. Instead the people living home with mommy and daddy that could afford to sit on their *** in the back and only wait for their requests made master stylists!

Everything the above person mentioned in their post above is the truth too!

This is truly a suck *** company to work for and DR try's to brain wash you. You blow!!!

Guest

I think you,the stylist are the problem. I've been a stylist for 28 yrs.

, I have worked for myself , other small salons & very large corporations. This is a very demanding job & if your not up for the challenge than you you should change careers. If you are up for the challenge than its one of the most rewarding & lucrative careers you can have. Just so you know it is your job to send your clients home with what they need to duplicate what you've done.

If you , the professional can't create a style without the right products , how do you expect your client to.

Also you & your guests make a mess in that store everyday & you should take pride in your workplace & keep it clean.

You didn't listen to the stylist you can't make a living in that company they do a lot of illegal things they make you come and clean the salon for the whole day without PAY you go to meeting without pay and its mandatory that's illegal.you get minimum wage if you commission you actually make less than minimum wage, illegal illegal illegal!and there's more. this is just some of the issues.

My daughter started there while still in high school. She has done well for herself due to her ambition.

It was good while she went through college because the hours where flexible. :( :( :( The problems are:WORST HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN EVER!

Plus, we could not put her on our insurance because, technically she had her own through her job. Their plan does not even qualify as insurance under the "Affordable Care Act" so all their employees who have are going to get fined!!!!!!!

Her district manager was irresponsible and didn't care about the salon she worked at because it was not a top dollar salon.

Guest

I've been with the hair Cuttery for a year and a half. Our district leader is one of the most known in the company (Joyce Taylor).

She's amazing just like all tr stylist in her district.

:zzz. In this company you make what you want obviously you didn't want to make to much.

Guest

I worked for hair cuttery for 4 years. I did make less than minimum wage.

I was told by my district leader that I had to not clock in when I got there, or to punch out when it was slow (most of the time). Most of the cleaning I did, I did for free. Those practices are illegal. Everyone that worked for hair cuttery, and is not middle or upper management knows the company is corrupt.

They never marketed, at all, for our salon. They said it was our job, then shot down all our marketing ideas. I watched them over work fellow stylists into the hospital, because we were understaffed and they refused to let our salon leader hire anyone. How exactly does a person work 60+ hour weeks but only get $200.00 pay checks?

We often opened and closed alone, and worked 12+ hour days back to back. The scam you out of commission, and retail bonuses by saying you have to make it every week for it to count towards commission.

Guest

I work for a hair cuttery and have for quite some time. As it is illegal to pay less than minimum wages you obviously were paid at least that.

This is a company that takes 15 of it's top salons to Cancun every year, not to mention numerous other contests that he holds for the stylists. My salon won shears one year. I've never work in a salon with house keeping. At best you are being asked to clean up your mess.

The exaggeration that you have to go to WOW class for not telling a client what you used in their hair is quite comical.

WOW is designed to give the customer an overall great experience in the salon and it's not just about product. Seems to me that if you're that unhappy maybe you should look elsewhere for a job.

Get this straight this has nothing to do with the color of your skin. If your resume is as poor as your review than that is the real reason they did not hire you.

Also with such terrible spelling and grammar how did you graduate right out of school, not only graduate but were the top of the class. Your not getting the job has nothing to do with your skin `coloe`but your poorly spelled resume.

Guest

Get over yourself and stop pulling the race card. You can't even spell or construct a sentence that makes sense so I can only imagine what your resume looks like.

Guest

Why is the world so full of people who want to make negative comments that will hurt others? Yes, my comment is negative in itself.

Perhaps I should have utilized a more constructive approach. I wish we all could just respect each other since we are all human, and we all have human imperfections. Emotions, life experience, poor economy, family pressures, etc. all contribute to our tendency to misjudge others and, in turn, mistakenly come to false conclusions.

I am guilty of all of the aforementioned and more. Let us forgive, provide instruction, and try to live together in harmony.

Yes..I know...I'm full of **** and I need to wake up. However, it was a nice dream while it lasted.

People are just telling this person why she did not get the job. She automatically concludes racism when her spelling and grammar are poor so we are just stating the truth so she can get her head out of her *** and realize this is not a skin color issue. The fact is she did not get the job because of the spelling and grammar errors in her resume, not because she has black skin.

Guest

I am a former employee of hair cuttery part time and I was a new stylist as well and they hired me immediatley and I had no real hands on cutting experience but my confidence showed them I was willing to learn and also not afraid of a challenge. I don't feel it is the color of your skin honestly, I feel you must have confidence and present yourself well.I am actually about to apply to the company again because it has great growth potential and they really work with you to help you improve your craft. The only reason I left hair cuttery was because the manager I had was a drug user(obvious by the white powder cocaine on her nose daily) and like to abuse us as stylist and treated us with no respect.

Guest

Everyone always wants to blame the color of the skin. That is not even a factor and I am tired of hearing those excuses.

If you look at your spelling and grammer that is probably it, you might want to take some classes to improve an important areas, communication is important, it is clear you do not have the skills. I am not trying to make you feel bad I am giving you advice.

Improve those areas and then look for a job, I am sure you will find one once you can speak and spell properly. Never blame it on color of skin, I have all skin colors who work for me and I love all of them.

Guest

Really?? Are you seriously pulling the black card on this?!?

I bet it had more to do with your spelling than anything. Just saying...

Guest

As an Ex Salon Leader, a written Resume does not show your skills.

Anyone can write a up an impressive resume. In the hairdressing business you have to actually do a cut and blow dry before you can even be considered. Maybe the hours you are willing to work are not inline with what the salon needs, or maybe other applicants came in who have worked in the business longer, and already have clients. Just as an FYI Salon leaders are paid bonuses per salon revenue, so I would personally hire someone who was going to bring revenue to the salon over a person out of school that was going to take more walk in away from the stylist I already have. Try talking to the manager of the salon to find out why you were not hired.

To Marta, the only people to complain about discrimination are the ones who are not hired. There are many ethnic backgrounds at the haircuttery. Also looking at it from a Salon leader prospective, the clients are from every ethnic background and many hair clients trust people of there own background because they feel they know their hair better. So from that stand point the more diverse the salon the more client you pull in, the more money the salon makes, again bigger bonus to the salon leader.

I live in South Florida and when I worked for the salon we were the top money making area for all of hair cuttery and 2 out of 4 district leader were hispanic. It has nothing to do with race but what you bring to the table.

Guest

I have been told by others that the Hair Cuttery discriminates against minorities in promotional opportunities. Since Ratner Companies, the parent organization of HC is privately held it is difficult to obtain definitive data.

Does anyone have verifiable numbers indicating how many Field leaders, district leaders and above are Black or Hispanic? My sources say it is a verly low ratio.

Guest

I hate to say it honey, but it's not the color of your skin. It's most likely because you can't spell your way out of a paper bag. You might have gotten through cosmetology school, but I think you might want to try repeating the third grade, cuz someone was stoned when they let you advance to fourth.

Hair Cuttery, Magnolia Square, Naples, FL

I went in to get my hair cut and was told the wait was going to be about 45 minutes. I could tell from the attitude of the person talking to me that they did not want me to wait. I said I would wait, so she walked away without checking me in. Their were 4 stylist working, and as each one got done they went into the back. They kept me waiting for an hour and 10 minutes. One stylist came out and told a friend of hers that she couldn't cut her hair there as she was supposed to be off the clock and that if this person followed her home then the stylist would cut her hair at home. The stylist and friend went into the back together. After waiting for an hour and ten minutes they finally checked me in then one of the stylist came out of the back and finally cut my hair. After the stylist came out to cut my hair the other stylist came out with the friend and the stylist then proceeded to cut the friends hair. Also, while I was there another lady came in and just wanted her hair washed and blown dry, the stylist told her it would be more than is posted on the board because her hair was long, it was only to her shoulders, when the women asked how much more it would be she was told they couldn't tell her until they got her in the chair. The women asked why not the stylist finally came up with a price. It was clear they didn't want her to stay either. Definitely not a friendly place. Surely don't make you feel welcome.

Dirty hair cuttery

just before the holidays i went to hair cuttery in silver springs, md and was appalled at the filthy brushes the inexperience, inept stylist used on me. i had told her i did not want her to use those brushes on me i offered to buy my own right there on the spot, and being the unprofessional that she is, she thought by turning my chair away from the mirror i would not take notice to the fact that she used her dirty brushes on my hair. i will not go back nor will i recommend them to anyone else

HAIRCUTTERY OVER HIRES AND YOUR JUST A NUMBER

I worked for haircuttery only to find big turn over of staff. They hire newly grads from beauty schools, and there are a lot of cliques and who ever sells the most retail for them is the queen of the shop. If you clean after all the so called master stylist who have put up with the companys *** longer, your in like the groove. They dont care how much client retention you have or how many years you been a stylist. it's all about how high your totals are. After just hiring you, they hire five more, and you do walk ins along with the older vultures who hang around front desk? There is no fairness and managers are robotic, they are yelled at all the time if the numbers are not up to par. They pick their cronies and thats who they give the good schedules. If your new you work a different schedule every week, every sat and sunday and when the older staff feels like taking off. i reccomend you dont waste your valuable time working for a comapny whp does not appreciate experience snd talent. If you just got out of school and listen to orders structured enviroment, its great for you to do trial and error haircuts and color. They wont fire you even if customers complain just work fast and never let anyone eait over 2 mins in the waiting area. And upsell their retail. push it down peoples throats, and have fun:)))))) My well given experience from working for them......

HAIR CUTTERY IS A JOKE!!! THEY JUST LET ANYONE REPRESENT THE NAME.

THE HAIR CUTTERY IN LAPLATA, MD IS PROOF OF THAT. I EXPECT SOME GOSSIP IN A SALON BUT TO HEAR THE MANAGEMENT BASH THE OTHER EMPLOYEES IS UNCALLED FOR. I HAVE WITNESSED OPEN LIQUOR CONTAINERS (CAPTAIN MORGAN) IN THE BACK WHILE BEING SHAMPOOED ALONG WITH WATCHING THE MANAGER TAKE CONSTANT TRIPS TO IT WITH I ASSUME HER 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THE ONLY REASON I RETURN IS BECAUSE MY HAIR GETS DONE THE RIGHT WAY EVERY TIME BY MY STYLIST.

HOWEVER THE ENVIRONMENT IS LEAST TO BE DESIRED AND MANAGEMENT IS A JOKE. IF I WAS TO GUESS ID SAY THE MANAGERS ARE BEST OF FRIENDS AND ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES.

Guest

WOW! All these employees even salon leaders bickering about whether or not its worth working at this trash hole. No wonder theres so many miserable clients.

Guest

as a sl myself - why would i not want my stylists to be successful?? to be financially secure??

to be the best that they can be and to share their knowledge with their clients?? why would i not want them to be able to support their families and pay their bills and still have money for vacations?? if that makes me selfish and you 'just a number' then i apologize - it is wrong for me to assume that because you have applied for a job that you actually want to work and make money? is it also wrong for me to assume that because you chose to go to beauty school that you decided this was a CAREER for you and not a JOB?

I hate to break it to you - but success and fortune and happiness doesnt COME to you - you have to EARN it - if it was as easy as sitting around and waiting for it we would all be successful and rich and happy. stop blaming everyone else and 'the system' - all i truly want for my girls when i 'push' them is for them to realize that they can control their financial outcome in this industry - tell me how many other jobs can you go in to and say 'its my goal to make $200 today'? can you do that as a secretary or a cashier at wal-mart or as a school teacher?? maybe some of us dont 'push' our people for the right reasons - but for me - i do it because i want EVERY stylist that i work for to be happy with what they make and i want them to make the most that they can ...

and the working saturday and sunday thing - i ask my girls that work 5 days a week if they would like to work 3 and make the same money ... you can work friday saturday and sunday (the busiest days) and make the same money you make on a 'regular' schedule and have monday - tuesday - wednesday and thursday off to do whatever you like ... take long trips to see your friends or family or even jut have more time for your children ...

for me its about making my people successful and helping them do it in a way that suits their lifestyle needs .. so its not 'hair cuttery' - thats NOT how we as SLs are trained - if that is REALLY how you feel and it is REALLY how your salon and leadership team are - its THEM - not the company.

Guest

U must be one of the lazy girls who sits on her butt in the backroom on her phone. Have u ever had a job!

Yes u are a number, U do have to clean, U never start a job with the best schedule, AND MONEY AND THE BOTTOM LINE ALWAYS MATTER! Work hard, shut-up, do the best and you'll make the most money!

Guest

Wow you guys are working in the wrong stores.I also am a SL and my store is nothing like this.I am so sorry you feel this way. I have been with hair cuttery for 15 years.I have left and worked other places but always come backI LOVE hair cuttery!!!!!

Guest

I've been working at Hair Cuttery for awhile now and why would you not want to sell sell sell? The more you sell, the more money you get.

And 45%, guess what, you sell more and do more, and you MAKE MORE! You don't have to push retail, if you educate your client and suggest what is best for their hair, it just happens. I always tell my staff, if they client doesn't need anything, then they don't need it. If their shampoo is working and they like it, then so be it.

You should contact your DL or RL and try to get some resolution for your problem. My salon is not run that way, and we make our numbers.

Guest

I'm a salon leader also and I can tell you that's not how my salon goes. Sorry you feel ur just a number buy I have awesome stylists that love to sell sell sell for their salon!

Guest

I'm a salon leader my salons not run like that. They keep thier same schedule every week and my salon is going to cancun for free on the company for sell sell selling!!!!

Guest

You are soooooo correct! Been with Hair Cuttery for 4 1/2 yrs.

now, and everything you said is true! I have been saying we should just say, "Hi!

I'm Stylist 1425. How can I WOW you today!"

Guest

IF YOU WANT TO WORK LIKE A DOG, AND BE HOLLERED AT 24/7 SELL SELL SELL, WORK THERE. YOU ATTEBND CLASSES HOW TO MANIPULATE BRAIN WASH EMPLOYEES TO SELL MORE AND WORK FASTER AND OBTAIN MORE UNATAINABLE GOALS.

ITS BOTTOM LINE MAKE MONEY FOR THE COMPANY AND YOU GET A MERE 45% AND 10% COMMISION ON RETAIL SALES, THATS 10 DOLLARS AFTER TAXES LUCKY IF YOU GET NINE AFTER THEY HOLD A WEEK OR MONTH BACK. BOTTOM LINE ITS A MONEY TRAP, GET EM IN AND OUT AND SELL EVERY CLIENT A PRODUCT, PUSH STAFF LIKE A SGT. AND MAKE EM CLEAN WASH TOWELS ANSWER THE PHONE AND PUT ALL CLIENTS NUMBERS IN THEIR COMPUTER. THEY FEEL THEY OWN THE CLIENTS, YOUR TALENT EXPERIENCE IS WORTLESS AND REPLACE YOU IN A HEARTBEAT.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THEIR RESOLUTION IS TO QUIT. WONDERFUL, THATS THE HAIRCUTTERY WAY, STILL $15.00 WOWWWWWWWW, LMAO BEWARE!!!

They degrade employees, to the point I was discouraged from working in the industry.

It is true...you are just a number. I have never once had a customer come back with a complaint, a redo, NEVER because to me...that is my name walking out that door with my customer. I enjoy what i do and i take my time with my customers, i educate them. I am not "pushy" when it comes to retail. Our names are posted for everyone to see who does what in the back, and there is usually smart comments posted along with it. I do try to sell retail, but im not going to make someone feel uncomfortable in my chair in order to do so. I am in jeopardy of losing my job because of this. I take pride in where i work and i do clean and greet people. The girls with the "high numbers" do "5 minute haircuts" (i kid you not) they purposely overcharge customers, sign customers in as requests when they are not, get people to purchase retail and then return it, and CONSTANTLY have customers come back with BAD HAIRCUTS. When I tried to talk to someone MY SCHEDULE WAS CHANGED because there is no confidentiality what so ever. I am now probably going to lose my job

could somebody tell as how Mach does it pay to work for them???!!!! :?

Maybe it could be that this company could use a facelift and new leadership. Maybe some of the older concepts are dated, and they can use new leaders to introduce more progressive concepts.

If by chance, that does happen, the average stylist could be happier in their position and have a light at the end of the tunnel, concerning their career. As this industry is constantly evolving, sometimes its is not necessarily the company but the individual looking forward.

Guest

I worked at a few different Hair cuttery's at different time in all positions. I would Just Like to say that the company when I started was great.

Things have changed over the years and Some not for the better. Denise Ratner used to come in to the salons and talk to the stylist, customers, heck would even help sweep. Since he has let the company go more into corporate hands verses, him overseeing things it as not as good. I think you had a bad manager.

The company as a whole is a good company to work for. As a Salon manager, I think one person was ever fired from Salon, most of the people working in the salon I worked at are still there and most have been with hair cuttery 10 years or more. A company that has employees with that much time in can not be that bad.

It is a shame you had such a bad experience.

you were treated unfairly by a manager. Salon leaders should coach you not fire you.

Guest

msm: well i am soo happy for you and im glad that you can have confidence in every salon leader that has ever worked for Ratner companies. Do you personally know every one of them??

Obviously not because not long after my posting on this site...the salon leader lost their job and hmm suprise, suprise i won my case because i was treated unfairly and discriminated against and was a single mother who lost their job 1 week before christmas...oh yeah real nice company.

I truly hope that you continue being "happily" employed...i really do. I also hope that you never have to work with someone who just decides that they are going to push you out the door one day for no good reason...you know employees come and go so you never know when you may come up against someone not so nice who makes your life miserable for no other reason than just because they can!

Guest

I am a salon leader at hair cuttery and i love it.

if you do your job, you wont have a problem

Guest

If you do not have any write ups and feel that you have been treated unjustly first seek help from your district leader, then regional leader if you cannot get the help you were looking for.

Guest

I have been with this company on and off for almost 17 years. I have held every position in the salon from a shampoo tech to a salon leader and I have to say I am appalled that there are people that feel so badly about the company.

I am not denying these things may be true for you but I must say that I have never encountered these things myself .... I am currently a Salon Leader and I believe that EVERY person on my team plays an important role and that its not about retail sales or 5 minute haircuts but about service - atmosphere - integrity and quality. I DO NOT tolerate overcharging of clients - as I am a consumer myself and NEVER want to be ripped off .... and while I encourage my girls to educate their clients about retail and make suggestions it is merely because I want their clients to be able to address client concerns and the clients to get the most out their hair at home .... I have 'high flyers' and I have 'dabblers' but THEY ALL are important to me .... they are my family .... all I want for them is success in their career (whatever that looks like for them)and to love where they work and know that the sky is the limit and I will give them a boost to get there if they need it ...

Happy people breed success and I'm almost curious as to where (in what area) you work as I work closely with my Regional AND District Leaders and I KNOW that what you are describing would NOT be tolerated by either of them.

There is a reason we changed our titles from managers to leaders ....I want to LEAD MY PEOPLE TO SUCCESS .... no matter if its - spending more time with their family and making the most out of a few hours in the salon or they want to go on to be more than just a stylist and flourish in their careers ....

It truly breaks my heart that your experiences have made you feel this way about an organization that is - in my eyes- one of a kind .... there is a reason I keep coming back (I only ever left to have a child and to teach at a beauty school). I am also saddened to think that there MAY be Leaders out there ruining what the owner is truly trying to create for our industry which is a place for all of us to shine - no matter what our contribution is...

Again - my apologies and I only wish you could have seen the better side of who we are .... I hope you find happiness wherever you choose to take your talent!!

^^ Spoken like a TRUE 'LEADER' - Bravo! :-)

I WISH all salon 'leaders' had your integrity and attitude.

Sadly, many do not.

As well, many recent hires in our salon are druggies, and low lifes (sadly that ^ is reflection of what the area has become and has to offer).

Unfortunately, this makes for a very uncomfortable work environment when you're afraid your tools, tips, anything/everything will be stolen when you walk out to get a drink or take a break.

Guest

I've worked for them for 27 years and maybe it's just the salon I work in, but I have a very good time at my job. Our girls work well together and have a good reputation.

The clients are well taken care of and are happy to come back. I feel sorry for those of you that are unhappy.

Something has to be done with that manager for running such a shady business.

Terrible Experience - Hair Cuttery/Normandy Crossing, JAX

If this review made it possible to give negative stars, I would choose - 5. My husband went to Hair Cuttery on Normandy Blvd today, and as with all walk-ins, was assigned a stylist: Cheryl. Having had his hair cut there several times, he thought he was safe from bad haircuts, but his usual stylist was not available. So after explaining in detail including the grades for difference parts of his cut to Cheryl and how he styles hair, she completely ignored him, and buzzed a grade 3 stripe down the center of his head!! Suffice to say, the rest is history, as you can't undo that kind of action. Please beware of Cheryl and her clippers. You'll regret it unless you're looking for an unskilled style-less buzz cut. The worst part about this experience is she laughed. Shame on you Hair Cuttery, for not fully screening your stylists.

There's a way to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Tell hubby to do like he was when he was a kid and go to a MAN'S Barbershop and get a MAN'S haircut.

There are still plenty of good barbershops in Jax.

Go see Nell at King/Park street. Great haircut and cheaper too

Shouldn't let the consumer leave unhappy

I was just at the brand new Hair Cuttery located at the Crossing at Lisbon. Store # 3643, where I have been for the past 2 hours.

Anyhow, I went in there at 11:30am and asked for a kid cut and an adult cut & eyebrow wax. I was told it would be an hour and a half wait. Ok, no problem. So we waited.

Well, my son was called up to get his haircut and it looks amazing! Nycole K did a great job! Impressed. However, she then proceeded to ring me up.

So I inquired as to why I hadn't been called upon for my haircut & eyebrows and she told me that my name wasn't on the list! Holy cow! I have waited 2 hours and left disappointed because I didn't get what I went in there for! I told her I would be back tomorrow, but I am very upset, so I will be going elsewhere to get my hair done.

Not quite sure how my name could be left off the list (list is in the computer) and even so, have another salon tech take care of me, but no.

Just told, "oh, sorry, your name's not on the list" wasn't what I was expecting from a place that should want business from consumers; especially since it's a new place. They should have never let me walk out the door disapointed.

I am sorry to hear of your Hair Cuttery experience! As a fellow Hair Cuttery employee, it is very easy to accidently have your name disappear off of the list or very simply mistankly not put on. Being the fact that, there was an hour and a half wait, the stylists in that salon were very busy, you could have easily been with your child while getting their haircut, and missed your name called and someone with the same name took your place, or the stylist who signed you in could have accidently not typed you in the computer. Mistakes happen! I work in a very busy and new Hair Cuttery, and there are just times when you are trying to please everyone at the same time, so mostly everyone is walking around with a spinning head with an hour and a half wait.

But as for the stylist, letting you walk out the door with out an explanation or for her to offer to take care of you and your services, or have someone else help you, there is NO EXCUSE for that. I truely hope that, you return to the Hair Cuttery because its a great place, and you will enjoy the rest of your experiences there!

Hair Cuttery's main concern daily is customer service! We do alot of training on our WOW service!

*Another reason, there should always be receptionist, in every new salon with high volume!*

Guest

Yes you are correct, they should have NEVER let you left without an hair cut.

New or Old business. Wow

Guest

Customer service SHOULD be high on the list, especially for a brand new establishment. I guarantee I will never go there for a haircut or any other service.

Not only didn't she get the service she asked for but another customer came in with a complaint about her hair being wrong and she was taken right away to "fix the problem".

Too bad that another customer ( the original poster)had to walk away angry and disappointed. Not the kind of place I'd want to give my hard earned money too.

Guest

We do care about customer service and have copied your message and sent to the appropriate people. Hopefully they will be able to find a way to connect with you. I am very sorry for the expierence and I know we would love the opportunity to make that right.

Guest

It's too bad, but nobody seems to care about customer service anymore.

Your not a maid

YOUR NOT A MAID MY LICENSE SAYS COSMETOLOGIST, I MEAN GENERAL CLEANING DUTIES AND KEEPING YOUR STATION CLEAN IS ONE THING, BUT TO MOP SWEEP A WHOLE SALON AND DO LAUNDRY ALL DAY??? WORK IN A REAL SALON WITH PROFESSIONALS AND YOU DO WHAT YOUR SUPPOSE TO DO MAKE MONEY USING YOUR TALENT BEHIND THE CHAIR. THEY ARE TOO CHEAP TO HIRE RECEPTIONIST OR SHAMPOO PEOPLE AND ALL OF YOU SO CALLED MANAGERS ARE ON PROBATION, YOU DONT MEET QUOTA YOUR TRANSFERED OR FIRED!!! GET REAL GROW UP AND QUIT USING CORPORATE BRAIN WASH ETHICS. I WOULD SAY TO NEW HAIRDRESSERS WORK IN A REAL SALON WHERE YOUR TREATED LIKE A PERSON NOT JUST A ASSOCIATE NUMBER WITH YOUR TOTALS NEXT TO YOUR NAME, THATS WHY FOLKS PEOPLE DONT STAY WITH HAIRCUTTERY, NO APPRECIATION AND THEY KEEP HIRING BEAUTY SCHOOL GRADS!!!!!!!!!!!

Hair Cuttery is an excellent place to work...lets face it...with the down turn of the economy....Hair Cuttery has prospered...how many private salons can say that...that is if they are still open. Hair Cuttery hires stylists with the genuine desire to grow and prosper....and check the numbers....WE HAVE PROSPERED BIG TIME!!!

Since when this site is on english grammar Sally. be a teacher and stay in the classroom.

Stay out of this site. Let people be in getting there point out! ooops! I mean their point out.

:? :grin

Guest

Yes Hair Cuttery. Hire Cleaners, Receptionist, and Shampoo Technicians.

You clain to offer the same services that are provided in a private salon setting. Did you mean to benifit yourself? As This surely does not apply to employees. Employees needs to concentrate on clients, not cleaning toilets, moping and sweeping.

Take your stylist to another level. Treat them with a little respect, and class.

Stay out of this site. Dam! Let people be.

Just get there, ooops! I mean their point out.

Guest

Of course they hire beauty school grads...They need to start out some place.

Guest

LMAO! Don't listen to bitter SALLY, she clearly must be in a management position for Hair Cuttery. I have read several entries and I think your spelling and punctuation are excellent, yes it should be "you're." However, you are an artist, not a secretary either....so *** it SALLY!

Guest

It's "you're" as in you are. Not "your" which is a possesive pronoun.

No wonder they have you mop and do laundry. YOU'RE an ***.

Re: you are not a maid, regarding ***

It seems I was typing fast and made a mistake, and for you to call someone a *** without knowing them is childish. You propablly are one of the "IDIOTS" that work for Haircuttery, therefore stuck in a low class makeshift cubicle of a station and doing flea market type hair. One reason is it's because thats all you can, and you are not talented to go anywhere else, and as far as your observation of my post KMA, and sweep around your own lil life before you start bashing people with your school teacher corrective ethics.......I took the high road, and you can continue to work in your structured enviroment with beauty school failures, lmaooooooo regards ciao

Maybe you should have been a school teacher, or grammar and human psychologist.Your analysis of my experience with the haircuttery is MUTE and you sound like some brainwashed haircuttery employee, And as for your information I worked 25 years in beauty industry, five of them were for Dennis Ratner. I made comments for others who are going to face this hostile vulture enviroment as new hire's.

I made my money in private salon's and worked 8 months for them thinking I wanted to go back to work. The whole corporation has changed and your rated on your retail selling and cleaning duties along with change of salon leader's every year, I was taken back for their disregard for seasoned hairdresser's and the conduct of management. As for you, who are you to judge one's psychology make up or concern with regards to their working experience with the haircuttery? You will never go any where else and limit yourself, because you fit right into their "mold" of yes man, no mam syndrome.

But I understand some never want to go up, just coast thru life. Believe me I am not in any competition with the chop and hop haircuttery corporation, I did move on, but I never forget when i gave 100% and was *** on.

"Get a life" Ms. whatever and clean up around your own front door, before you start your self made up PHD in analyzing my post on this corporation!!

propablly?? or probably??

THATS NOT from typing fast lol ** and if you were REALLY taking the high road you wouldnt have even responded to whatever you were responding to ** and is that enviroment or enviroNment???

(i dont like the high road - the altitude makes my nose bleed hahaha) Anyway, the high road means you are a better person and would never be rude or degrading or 'stoop' to someones level that you find below your values .... so apparently your 'high road' must sit in the valley ** grow up ** if you dont like a job move the *** on ** and that brings me to the next thing ** bill dodge needs therapy lol ** his comments are plastered ALLLLLL over this site on the Haircuttery complaints that i have entertained myself with this evening, sounds like someone needs to learn how to LET IT GO ** i mean - if they are sooooo horrible you would think you were glad that you were no longer associated with them ** given your childish behavior and your apparent anger issues and your inablity to handle things in an adult manner i would have to venture to say that the issue wasnt with haircuttery and they are probably better off without you lmao ** unless maybe you work for one of these other salons on here with just as many complaints and youre bashing the name to make yours look better ** who knows ** people do weird things ** but either way i find you all entertaining ** like watching children having temper tantrums and teenagers blaming the world for their problems **

HAIR CUTTERY-RED BUG LAKE RD SUCKS!

The stylist Bianna did not LISTEN to me when I said cut NO MORE than 1/2 inch off of my sons hair. She cut over 1 1/2 inches off my sons hair. Now he has a exteremly "BAD BOWL CUT". Then when it was my turn she Tapered the back of my head. She has cut my hair for over 1 year & NEVER tapered the back. NOW I have a "BAD BOWL CUT" too. I will NEVER USE HAIR CUTTERY AGAIN.... Stay away.... Every stylist is FRESH out of hair school & the cut reflect that. If you care about your looks -STAY AWAY-- not worth the savings.

I recently had my hair done by a wonderful stylist, Ashley. She was very knowledgeable and personable.

I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my color, peak-a-boos, and style. I fly down to FL from NY (!!) to have my hair done by her and hate to have anyone else touch my hair.

Guest

EVERY hairdresser is - at some point - fresh out of school .... and I have been working in the industry for 17 years ....

and I work for haircuttery... Im not fresh out of school. Actually out of the 26 girls I work with only 3 are fresh out of school and sometimes they are better because they are up with the latest trends and techniques. You also said shes been cutting your hair for OVER a year ...

thats hardly fresh out of school ... Im sorry this experience was so horrible for you but when you make uninformed uneducated blanket statements about a company as a whole because of ONE person - it hurts all of us that do know what we are doing and that DO care.

Guest

I hate to come on here and read some of these responses. I have worked for Hair Cuttery for over a year now. I have worked in high-end salons, and have even been an educator at schools. It doesn't matter what salon you go to, there are going to be bad stylist. I can promise you, within a few weeks that stylist will not be there any longer.

It sucks to have a bad cut or color, most of us have been there, but typically it is NOT the salons fault but more so the stylist. To read comments that 'hair cuttery hires untrained stylist' is not completly true. We do hire people directly out of school, but where else are they going to get a job? They have to start somewhere. And if there was a good salon leader there, they would be helping this new stylist to improve the skills needed to be a great stlyst.

Most of the complaints on here are ligit, and I'm not trying to small-mind anyones problem. Just know that if you go to a stylist that knows what they are doing at ANY salon, you will typically get what you ask for.

Tip.. If you are looking for a new stylist, just go in for a treatment/wash-blowdry and see how they do before you get any chemical service.

Gift card/hairdresser couldn't use/wanted cash

I had the experience of going to a haircuttery to get a hair cut, as I have been doing for years. My family gave me a gift card and the beautican had no knowledge of how to use the card. She called another beautican and she also did not know how to use the card. She requested I use cash an I refused, even tho, I had cash on me. Why are u selling gift cards, if your beauticians are not capable of using the card. I walked out of salon and contacted my daughter and told her not to purchase any cards for her friends or relatives for Christmas. Marge Nelson 412 So. Cypress Road, Pompano Beach Fl. 33060 Guess I will have to find another salon for hair cuts. maybe supercut.

Marge, what salon did you go to? Is it a chain? Have you contacted the owner/manager?

DO NOT WORK FOR Hair Cutteryi

DO NOT WORK FOR HAIR CUTTERYI. They will cut you at the knees if you ever decide to go out on your own! My daughter worked in the Elizabeth City, North Carolina salon and worked her but off there for two years and made them a lot of money. She is a very good hairstylist and 50% of her clients were requests for her. Although she did get commission, she could and would never make a higher commission rate because she wouldn't push retail sales on her customers. She is not a salesperson, she is a hairstylist. So we decided to have her finally go out on her own and booth rent! We teach our children to do the right thing in life, but oh how naive I am in a dog-eat-dog world we live in today. She gave them her three week notice! What did they do, MADE HER LEAVE RIGHT THEN! We made signs and banners notifying her clients and they tried to have these signs removed and even sent her a letter threatening legal action since she used the Hair Cutteryi's name! Well, we will not stop there as my daughter is an excellent hairstylist and although it may take it another two more years to build back clientele, she will indeed do it and SUCCEED and WILL NEVER GO BACK TO HAIR CUTTERY AGAIN. I will slander the name and email everyone I know to distribute to everyone in their email list and get this word out. Hairstylists DO NOT NEED to work at Hair Cutteryi they treat their employees like dirt!

It is wrong that they made her leave but part of being a cosmetologist is selling products.

Dont waste your time complaining to Dennis Ratner...all he cares about is if his dm's are sucking his ***. Just kidding he's *** or hiding out in the closet.

Guest

Hi I worked for haircuttery for over two years I decided to go to school for my RMA license because my husband can not work I had planned on staying at haircuttery even after I got a job in the medical field I started building a really good clientele one day I went to work and they tried telling me I had three customers come back three days in the row which I know was not true because I would have been there three years that May Well they fired me and put me down as non-rehireable which is sad because I really loved my job I just recently found out alot of the workers that were there a long time quit so I don't believe I was fired because of haircuts coming back I believe I was fired because my co workers were upset because I actually was starting to build a really good clientele and I think they got mad because some of their regulars started coming to me because they either were always busy or on break oh,well it's their loss not mine and as the saying goes what goes around comes around. :(

Guest

You guys need to come to the north

1 we dont work on thanksgiving

2 im a very good salon leader and we talk and work together as a TEAM -- THATS WHAT MY dISTRICT LEADER teaches us

3 DONNADDEAN i get it you love your daughter 22 years a go when i first got into the business my mom and i went through the EXACT same thing AT A PRIVATE salon (everything posters- upset because i was a VERY HARD WORKER i told them that i was taking a family vacation and the owner had to proior problems with other stylists going on vaca and getting the vacation pay and then never came back SOOOO she asumed i'd do the same and fired me) but...after 22 years im here to tell you ITS NOT HAIRCUTTERY that is unfair to you .... its the business they asked your daughter to leave because they didnt want her to steal THIER CLIENTS (yes they are hair cutterys clients) although you daughter did a GREAT JOB in having them request her... but she did NOT PULL THEM IN the name haircuttery did... THATS NOT A HAIRCUTTERY THING THATS A HAIR INDUSTRY THING --- you will see that this INDUSTRY IS DOG-EAT-DOG ...NOT HAIR CUTTERY... I WIDH HER LUCK SHE SEEMS LIKE SHE LOVES HAIR AS MUCH AS ME...

Guest

Mr Rat now has us working on Thanksgiving Day. Who the f gets their hair done on this day?

Who the f is open on this day/ I wonder if Mr Rat will be working and not enjoying the day with his family. Does he really need more $ than he already has that bad? Corporate bs to the nth degree, WOW, still a pig with the lipstick. I wonder if we will be working Christmas too.

Modern day slavery and MR Rat is not a leader but destroying this industry.

He ought to be ashamed, but he's too blinded by the piles of money made off the slave's backs. Mr Rat gives Jews a bad name. You say I'm wrong and you believe in Mr Rat then you must be smoking too much WOW crack.

Guest

LMAO IF THE CLIENTS ARE THEIR PROPERTY, WHY DO THEY FOLLOW THE TALENT OF THE EXPERIENCED HAIRDRESSER WHEN THEY LEAVE? HAIRCUTTERY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT TALENT, BUT SOME CLIENTS DO!!!

NOBODY OWNS CUSTOMERS, ITS THE STYLIST THAT MAKE THEM COME BACK, THIER EXPERTISE IN KNOWING HOW TO DO HAIR!

WHEN HAIRCUTTERY LEARNS TO RESPECT EMPLOYEES THAT RETAIN CLIENTS, THEY WILL KEEP THEM, AND MAKE MORE MONEY. BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY RUN GOOD EMPLOYEES A WAY WITH ALL THE EXTRA WORK OF CLEANING AND DOING MAID TYPE WORK, ITS CALLED EXHAUSTION, LET THEM HIRE CLEANING PEOPLE, OUR LICENSE SAYS COSMETOLOGIST NOT MAID, LOL GET REAL

Guest

I hate to tell you this, but if she's commission then legally those clients are Hair Cuttery's "property." I wouldn't keep pursuing it because they CAN take legal action, and they will.

Guest

OH YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID! I HEARD FROM A CO WORKER AT H.C.

(I DO NOT EVEN WANT TO SPELL OUT THE NAME...THEY ARE DISPICABLE!) THAT THEIR SALON LEADERS ARE TRAINED TO SPEAK TO THEIR EMPLOYEES IN A MANNER THAT THE LEADER IS ALWAYS CORRECT? HMMMMM???? WHERE IS THE B.B.B??? I JUST QUIT THERE YESTERDAY!!!

IT'S THE "***" HOUSE (LETS SEE WHO WE CAN BREAK DOWN TODAY!!!! :):):) DENNIS RATNER WILL BE HEARING FROM ME VERY SOON!!!!!!!!!!

Hair cuttery bad hair days

have had bad hair days all the time after having gotten my hair cut at Hair Cuttery; went to one and got a bad cut and the next girl who did my hair said she thought the girl played a joke on me the haircut was so terrible; next, asked the girl for blonde hair and came out a redhead; next got a haircut and she didn't even so much as brush the old hair off my shoulders; then this final and last time, my hair was about 3/4 inch longer on the right than the left not to mention all the lengths were very uneven...husband has gone there and never satisfied either...these events happened at 5 different Hair cuttery locations...public beware!!!

Hair Cuttery salons vary

There are five Hair Cuttery shops in my immediate area and they vary amazingly. There are two I go back to, two I am neutral about and one that is awful where the hairdresser basically physically abused me by banging my head on the sink and clipping my ear and just being very rough. Before she started on me she came in and sat down to read a magazine, glancing at me once in a while to show how annoyed she was that she had a customer. Forget talking to a manager, they're in the stores a few hours a week. If you go early in the morning you get much better service because they aren't busy and have time. Most of the hairdressers enjoy their work when they're not rushed, but nobody can give careful attention and time when the walk in business is too much.

I also can let you know you can talk to a managers because we (yes i am a salon leader) have to work 40 hours. Please feel free to ask for them at that salon directly, thats what we are her for.Hope you will give another chance.
